As the owner of 1st Choice Tax Service, LLC, I have been preparing tax returns for clients for 30 years. After retiring, my father began his own tax firm and encouraged me to also pursue income tax preparation. I started very small, working out of my home when my children were little. Some of my original clients are still with me. I have deep connections with many of my clients and consider them close friends. My business has expanded over the years without having to advertise. I believe that is because I treat my clients and staff as family. I became an Enrolled Agent in February of 2016. My business now offers income tax preparation, tax planning, and accounting and payroll services.

Everyone experiences times during their life when they feel they need to change or do something different. That’s how I decided to take a tax preparation course at H&R block. After completing the course, I worked for H & Block for one tax season. Plans changed after I became a mother for the second time. I quit my full-time job at Cree Lighting, to stay home with my kids. During the next couple years, I prepared taxes, but it was mostly for family and friends. In January of 2020 Cyndy, my tax course instructor and 1st Choice tax preparer, introduced me to Virginia and here I am. I started as a seasonal tax preparer, but I have become a full-time employee and prepare taxes as well as being responsible for completing all the payroll services. Being fluent in Spanish has allowed me to assist with our Spanish-speaking clients. *Speaks Spanish

I am currently a Tax Professional dealing with the preparation of personal taxes and addressing concerns for the taxpayer to Federal and State Agencies. I have been with 1st Choice Tax Services since 2015. Happy to have been asked to stay on as a blended with Mattson and Associates. My previous employers include Transunion and Wisconsin Natural Gas and of course H&R Block. I found my niche after being downsized in the 90’s going to the unemployment office and being tested for my aptitude for future employment. No matter how many tests I took it kept coming back Tax Preparer blending my accounting background and people soft skills. I asked them how can I make a living doing a seasonal job? I do have an off fascination with the whole process and every new administration brings new and interesting nuances that I enjoy exploring. I guess I have always been the nerd who loves to learn. Hopefully it will stave off memory loss as I age, but if not that’s ok too. Still a great ride.

I’ve been with 1st Choice Tax Service, LLC for 22 years. It started off as a part time job with photocopying and assembling income tax returns for Virginia in her home. I eventually graduated to making phone calls for appointments and meeting with clients. I later realized that tax preparation was something that I enjoyed doing. I took an H&R Block course and received my certification, thus beginning my tax preparation career. In 2015 I graduated with my Associates Degree in Accounting from MATC. Since then, I’ve been doing individual and business tax returns, accounting services, payroll, and other small business and personal services. I also assist with our Spanish speaking clients that reach out with questions. I am currently training for my enrolled agent certification. *Speaks Spanish

Terri A. Miller, Receptionist

I have been the receptionist at 1st Choice Tax Service since January of 2018, but I have known Virginia for many years before that. We worked together at our previous place of employment, and we worked well together. My face is usually the first one clients see when they walk into 1st Choice. If people choose to drop off their tax documents, I assist in helping them fill out our questionnaire and answering any questions they might have. I photocopy and assemble all tax returns and call clients for pickup. I enjoy seeing all of our returning clients year after year. It’s also great to meet every new client that walks in the door.
